Marshmallow root contains 5-10% of mucus (depending on the time of year is collected and ways of processing the drug itself) which mainly consists of acidic polysaccharides. Pectin, sugars, aspartic acid and small amounts of sterols are also present. Marshmallow root is antitusic and it is used for irritable cough and cough caused by inflammation of the throat, and not used as an expectorant.

Composition
Marshmallow root (Althea radix)    40 g

Features and function
Marshmallow root is composed of whole or cut out parts of the root and rizioma types Althea officinalis L. Malvaceae. Marshmallow root contains 5-10% of mucus (depending on the time of year is collected and ways of processing the drug itself) which mainly consists of acidic polysaccharides. Pectin, sugars, aspartic acid and small amounts of sterols are also present. Marshmallow root is antitusic and it is used for irritable cough and cough caused by inflammation of the throat, and not used as an expectorant.

Usage
One tablespoon of tea shed with about 200 ml of boiling water, stir, let it stand in the covered pan and then strain.

Storage
Close paper bag with tea after each use. Keep it on dark and dry place.
